There are several hotels in Gibraltar that will suit almost any pocket. Ranging from the recently refurbished O'Callaghan Eliott, through to the Rock Hotel once the grandest hotel in Gibraltar. Others like the Queen's hotel nestling only about 50 metres from the Cable Car station, the Bristol Hotel next to the Gibraltar Museum and the Cannon hotel right in the middle of town just off Main Street. If you want to stay out of town with a glorious view of the Mediterranean then the excellent Caleta Hotel is the one for you. It is the only hotel in Gibraltar located next to the beach. Serviced by a regular bus route it is on the eastern side of the 'Rock' on Catalan Bay. O'Callaghan Eliott Hotel
Recently refurbished this 4* hotel is probably the most modern in central Gibraltar at the moment. The foyer is elegantly laid out in marble and facilities are excellent. Located centrally on Governor's Square directly opposite the Garrison Library the best way to get there is either by taxi or on foot through town. The hotel has a patio out front lined with palm trees where you can each lunch or relax. On occasion, the lounge bar hosts evenings of live music, notably local jazz musicians. It also has a rooftop restaurant where you can have that special meal with views across the Bay of Gibraltar and a gymnasium and pool if you just want to lay down, relax or get pampered. Information is on www.ocallaghanhotels.com and click on the links to Gibraltar.
The Rock Hotel
Probably the most recognisable landmark on the Rock next to the Moorish castle this hotel was originally built in 1932. All the rooms have views across the Bay and of the mountains of Morocco. With a lounge bar, the relaxing wisteria terrace and an award winning restaurant the Rock hotel is an oasis of calm on the Mediterranean coastline. Directly opposite Gibraltar Alameda gardens it also has its own pool and poolside bar. It is also the only restaurant in Gibraltar where you can get 'traditional' afternoon tea served as they did in the 'old' days complete with calories.
